Children perform better in school when their families are involved in their learning. How can you improve communication between home and school? How can you engage more families from diverse backgrounds and cultures? This workshop will provide creative ways to cultivate and sustain positive relationships with families and the greater community to ultimately assist each student in reaching his or her potential.

Join us for the following professional learning opportunity

Foundations of Family Engagement:

In this session, participants will be introduced to research from the past 20 years as well as the U.S. Department of Education’s Dual-Capacity Framework for Effective Family-School Partnerships that demonstrate how certain types of family engagement benefit student learning. Through an interactive self-reflective exercise, participants will also learn about the conditions that must be present in every school to provide a solid foundation for building effective family partnerships.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the research that shows the impact of family engagement on student learning
  • Explore the four core beliefs of significant and sustainable family engagement
  • Identify the five process conditions that must be addressed in every family engagement activity

Sherri Wilson is the Director of Consultative Services at Scholastic and a founding partner of the Center for Active Family Engagement (Café).
