Writing is an essential skill in modern American society that is crucial to career and civic engagement. However, the writing ability of U.S. students falls far short of national expectations. States have adopted new standards to increase the chances students will graduate from high school college- and career-ready, but most students are not receiving instruction that is aligned to these standards.
In this two-day workshop, educators will work with resources from the National Writing Project’s College, Career, & Community Writers Program (C3WP) to support students in reading critically, exploring multiple points of view, and taking their own stand on important issues. The workshop will introduce CESA 5 educators to a research- based argumentative writing program along with its philosophy, principles, process, and resources.
