This course will focus on learning about and supporting the implementation of assessment practices in the STEM classroom, particularly formative assessment practices that promote student ownership of learning through the sharing of learning goals and monitoring progress towards goals through peer and self-assessment. We will be using resources developed by Cheryl Rose Tobey, Susan Creighton, and Emily Fagan, from the Educational Development Center (EDC).
Participants will gain the following:
- Knowledge of key research findings about formative and interim assessment practices in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
- Numerous, ready to use tools and resources for learning about and supporting the implementation of assessment practices in the STEM classroom; particularly, formative assessment practices that promote student ownership of learning through the sharing of learning goals and monitoring progress towards goals through peer and self-assessment.
- Understanding of the connection between these practices and other state initiatives.
- Build collegial relationships among STEM teachers within a learning community.
- Sharing of ideas and resources.
Cost: $130 for CESA 5 School Improvement Members
$190 for Non-Members

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund.
Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
