There is no doubt that reading volume has a large impact on student achievement. How do we get the right books in the right students’ hands? How do we bring back the joy of reading to the students that have lost that joy?

In this workshop, we will explore multiple strategies for bringing kids back to books. We will articulate ways to get readers who are stuck (with a specific author, genre, etc.) into books they would not otherwise pick up. Participants will walk away with book recommendations and also proven strategies to create strong classroom libraries.

OBJECTIVES

Participants will:

  • Determine a structure for increasing the reading volume of their students.
  • Explore new and current literature that will keep their classroom libraries current.
  • Uncover the keys to engaging struggling or reluctant readers.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • 6th-12th grade teachers
  • Reading Specialists
  • Literacy Coaches
  • Instructional Leaders
  • Principals

PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BRING

  • Two or three books which are popular in your classroom.
