High school teachers are tasked with an important challenge: teach our youth how to be powerful writers, access complex texts, effectively use discourse and academic language, and justify their reasoning using evidence…all while fostering personal growth and development. That is significant! Learn how implementing the workshop model in your ELA classroom can help support your learners in accomplishing all of the above. The ELA workshop addresses methods for supporting learners through whole group, small group, and individual instructional opportunities in order to meet the diverse needs of all learners.

WORKSHOP WILL BE FACILITATED BY:

Heather Anderson

CESA 6 Literacy Consultant

DAY 1:

Discuss the Gradual Release of Responsibility within the workshop model, establish norms and routines, discuss collaborative strategies and discourse, begin to explore what the “other students” are doing.

DAY 2 (optional):

Dive deeper into norms and routines within YOUR classroom structure, develop language frames for students to communicate effectively within your classroom all while being supported as you begin unit planning using the workshop model. How will 2019—2020 be structured differently? Let’s get a jump on the next school year!
