Purpose: This training is designed to assist school leadership teams in the comprehensive planning process necessary to identify and address student learning needs. Leadership teams are introduced to a comprehensive planning tool (the REACh Fremework) and are mentored in developing a focused action plan based on school and district data to address and plan for identified student learning needs. The action plan developed will include a clear goal, strategies, procedures and resources needed to reach the goal, timelines, evidence indicators, evaluation criteria and a schedule to monitor progress. Trainers will focus participants on the common elements that characterize highly effective schools to include:
- Working as a professional learning community
- Developing strategic goals based on student learning data
- Professional development based on mentoring of best practice
- Resource mapping to effectively and strategically use or realign current resources and identify new resources
- Progress monitoring to determine if the identified plan is leading to success
Participating teams are guided in identifying local priorities and developing a comprehensive plan to address needs. This training is a requirement for first year REACh grant recipients and is highly recommended for any school and/or district that wants to more effectively identify and respond to the learning needs of all students. Schools and districts are strongly encouraged to send leadership teams who can carry forward a strategic action plan leading to student success.
Presenter: Sue Wellnitz
Audience: Participants are encouraged to come as a school leadership team including, at minimum, a building principal, special education teacher, general education teacher and a parent/family member. A pupil services staff member is highly recommended. Participation is most helpful when a leadership team participates for the duration of the training. Schools involved in a REACh grant project for the first time are required to attend this training.
