CANCELED -Identifying a Language Difference Versus Disorder in EL Students

Objectives for this 2 day workshop:

Day 1 (September 25, 2018):

• Identify red flags for language disorders in the EL population
• Complete a guided reflection based on an EL student from your school/district
• Receive a “toolkit” to support documenting concerns prior to referral
• Increase collaboration between special education staff and EL staff during the evaluation process

Day 2 (November 1, 2018)

• Document the need for a bilingual evaluation
• Identify appropriate formal and informal assessment measures for bilingual students,
• Work most efficiently with interpreters.
• Differentiate how you write bilingual, versus monolingual, evaluation report
