OVERVIEW
A professional development workshop to prepare regular and special education educators, and other school staff who will be working with hard of hearing students in the upcoming school year.  Learn about hearing loss in children and its major impact on learning in the school day.  Understand how their technology works, the benefits and limitations, and it’s proper care and use.

Every hard of hearing student has the right, as do their hearing peers, to auditory access in the learning environment.  This learning opportunity aims to reach each student’s educators prior to the school year starting so teachers and staff are familiar with the student’s hearing loss and hearing technology on the first day of school to allow for full participation and inclusion in their new classroom.

GOALS

  • Teacher awareness of hearing loss and its impact on a student in their school day.
  • Familiarity of hearing assistive technology (HAT) that their student will use, and classroom accommodations that will allow their student to have equal auditory access their hearing peers have.
  • Classroom accommodations that will help their hard of hearing student be successful in getting the auditory information being presented to the class.
  • Practical tips to use with their hard of hearing student in the fast-paced school day.
