Description: The Wisconsin Standards for Social Studies (2018) have been adopted by the Wisconsin State Superintendent.  The new standards provide a foundation that identifies what students should know and be able to do in social studes classes.  During this workshop you will gain an understanding of the New WI Standards for Social Studies and learn how to integrate them into your curriculum.

Choose to attend the entire series or specific days:

Day 1 - Introduction and Overview, Shifts & Unpack/Repack, Inquiry Arcs

Day 2 - Integration of Wisconsin Standards for Literacy in all Subjects (Disciplinary Literacy)
The Wisconsin Standards for Literacy in All Subjects, adopted in 2011, require all teachers, K-12, in every content area, to consider discipline-appropriate literacy techniques (also known as disciplinary literacy) with their students. Disciplinary literacy (DL) in social studies means that teachers are using thoughtfully chosen literacy techniques to teach students social studies objectives (not using social studies to learn literacy objectives). How do the WI Standards for Social Studies tie to DL?  Very well, in fact.  Learn connections between the two documents, resources for incorporating DL into classrooms and curriculum, and have time to review your existing curriculum for gaps.?

DPI Resources:

· WISSS Appendix: DL and WISSS
· DL in Social Studies Tip Sheet and Primary Source Toolkit

Day 3 - Elementary

Day 4 - Content and Integration of State Requirements (American Indian Studies, Environmental Literacy and Sustainablilty Standards and Information Technology Literacy Standards)

Day 5 - Planning for Year 2, Reflection and Lessons Learned
