Early childhood educators, join us for an awesome three-day training as we learn from educational consultant, Kelly Harmon. Participants will engage in activities related to language and literacy, phonics and fluency, and develop new strategies for reading and writing. Grow, create, and collaborate as you discover new ideas and techniques for teaching all learners.


Day 1 - October 11, 2018: Fostering Language & Literacy

Join Kelly Harmon for a day full of innovative, engaging ideas and activities for authentically accelerating the literacy development of young children! Through language play, music, read alouds, investigations, and experimenting with literacy tools, young children develop receptive, expressive, reading and writing vocabularies. Explore ways to set up a rich language and print environment and how to respectfully share literacy practices with parents of young children. This seminar includes make-and-take games and activities to use immediately in your classrooms!

~About Kelly Harmon~

Kelly Harmon, MAEd, is an international educational consultant with more than 25 years of experience working in early childhood to university level classrooms. Her passion for learning has led her from teaching to leadership roles. In 1998, she began working with districts and campuses in South Texas, providing grant management, literacy workshops, and instructional coaching. In 2002, she joined the Bureau of Education and Research (BER) to present seminars for literacy and technology across the Unites States and Canada. In 2012, Learning Sciences International Marzano Center invited her to join their team as a staff developer for the Marzano Evaluation Model and the Essentials of Rigor. Ms. Harmon earned her master's degree at the University of Texas, San Antonio. She is co-author with Dr. Robert J. Marzano of Practicing Skills, Strategies, & Processes: Classroom Techniques to Help Students Develop Proficiency.

Registration fee:
Includes 3 days of training, breakfast and lunch

  • $300 for CESA 5 School Improvement Services Members
  • $450 for non-members

CANCELLATION POLICY: Registrants receive a full refund if they cancel at least 2 weeks before the event. Because of commitments to the venue, presenters, vendors and participants, no refund of any kind, for any reason, will be given for cancellation requests received after September 27, 2018. Registrations ARE transferable within your organization. CESA 5 WILL NOT CANCEL THE EVENT DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registrants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. This policy replaces the cancellation policy stated below.

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
