Increasing Access Through the Use of a Free, Online Graphing Calculator and Activity Builder

Handheld graphing calculators can be costly, hard to use and may have limited capabilities. Some students may not have access to these calculators for financial reasons.  Desmos is a free, online graphing calculator that is easy to use and accessible to ALL students.

Desmos Classroom Activities help to deepen student mathematical understanding when students engage in the pre-made classroom activities. Students working together on these free, online activities helps to create a more collaborative environment. Teachers can also create customized activities using the Desmos Activity Builder.

 

Come join us in learning how to use and implement the free, online Desmos graphing calculator and Desmos Classroom Activities in order to give access to ALL students, increase engagement and deepen mathematical understanding!  

Learning Outcomes:

• Participants will recognize whether technology deepens student understanding or does the thinking for students.

• Participants will learn the key features of the Desmos graphing calculator and learn how to modify classroom activities to incorporate this free, online tool.

• Participants will explore and experience the stock of pre-made activities in Desmos Classroom Activities and may select activities to use in the classroom.  

• Using the Desmos Activity Builder, participants will customize activities that can immediately be used in the classroom.

Participants are asked to have access to their classrooms resources in order to modify existing lessons or to create new lessons.  Participants should bring their laptop or other technology device.

Cost: $75 for CESA 8 CIA member districts, $150 for all others

CANCELLATION POLICY: Any registration cancellation must be received 7 days prior to the scheduled date to receive a refund or avoid invoicing.
