Meet Toby and Gunner, Therapy Dogs at Three Lakes School District

Three Lakes School District will share their experience with establishing a therapy dog program.  Schools have found success using therapy dogs to provide support and create safe and effective learning environments.

Nicole Lewis, a Teacher at Three Lakes Junior High, and Deb Straus, Special Education Director, will share how they use therapy dogs at the elementary and junior high level.

Topics covered:

  • Research on therapy dog programs
  • Training to become certified therapy dogs
  • Process to receiving support from district administration
  • Things to consider such as permission slips and allergies
  • Challenges
  • Benefits such as calming effects in classrooms, emotional support, completion of assignments and improved attendance and reading skills
