This session provides an in-depth look at what we know about the importance of creating “neural pathways” in the brain, and how that translates into practical classroom application in beginning reading instruction. In this informative, practical, hands-on session, we will explore: (1) findings from brain imaging studies that are providing new insights into beginning reading instruction; and (2) how research translates into best practices in the classroom.

Workshop Learning Outcomes
Participants will:
· Explore current research regarding how to build the reading brain.
· Discuss and participate in research-based practices for developing a strong foundation for literacy.
· Apply research findings to beginning reading instructional choices.

• Teachers who teach beginning reading or work with students who struggle with learning how to read
• Special education teachers
• EL teachers
• Curriculum specialists and elementary principals that would like to build instructional leadership capacity in the area of early literacy acquisition

Cost: $75.00 per person for any CESA 8 School District
