Teaching in a rural district can be challenging. Being the only person in a district teaching an entire content area can be isolating. CESAs 8 and 9 are here to help . . .
One of the needs of our rural educators is the ability to collaborate with colleagues who are teaching similar content. Many of our districts have one person who teaches ALL middle school ELA or one science teacher for grades 6-12...the list can go on! Rural educators also can feel isolated from a professional development stand-point due to increased travel to attend workshops and a lack of substitute teachers available to cover classes when attending workshops and conferences.
For a rural educator, it can be incredibly challenging to continue their professional growth with such obstacles. The solution—The Rural Schools Educator Community.
The purpose of this free blended learning experience (one face-to-face AND four online collaboration opportunities) is to meet the needs of rural teachers in CESAs 8 and 9 to connect with their colleagues in other rural schools to share best practices, to discuss content-specific questions, and to provide space for consultancies.
By providing a free blended learning opportunity to support rural teachers’ professional growth and connection to colleagues on such topics as the role of technology in rural classrooms, assessment, and personalized learning, we believe their experience in this network can serve as a model of instruction to be taken back to their own classroom.
