Description:
This workshop will engage participants in developing an understanding of the new Wisconsin Science Standards and how they are connected to the Next Generation Science Standards. Participants will experience how to leverage the standards and accompanying supports to design and teach science. We will learn how to incorporate the science practices, cross-cutting concepts and content progressions while designing a lesson.

Key Goals:
Explore answers to the following questions:

  • Understand the relationship between the Wisconsin Science Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards
  • Learn how to use the standards documents for designing instruction
  • Learn what is needed to provide a conducive learning environment for students to successfully learn science concepts
  • Understand how to design assessment authentically to check for understanding
  • Think about the role of the student in assessment and explore methods to engage students in the learning process
  • Practice using the standards documents to design a lesson
