The new Wisconsin Standards for Science, which are very similar to the NGSS, pose unique challenges at the elementary level, though we also have an opportunity for improvement that may only come around every 14 years. In this session we will:

  • Dig into 3D elementary level instruction and assessment, particularly considering challenges of limited time,
  • Share experiences with connecting across subject areas (particularly math and literacy) and dig into sample interdisciplinary units,
  • Use resources such as Picture Perfect Science and Inquiring Scientists, Inquiring Readers
  • Review the new 4th grade Forward Exam in Science and consider what that suggests for instruction,
  • Discuss the minor differences between the WSS and NGSS.

We will have time for networking and sharing throughout the day.

Presenter: Kevin Anderson, DPI

Cost: $65; includes lunch
