Become Skilled at Creating Powerful Learning Experiences That Will Make Students’ Engagement and Learning Soar!

When it comes to student engagement, planning and assessment go hand-in-hand. Students get bored when the work they do doesn’t have an authentic purpose or audience. Thoughtful use of planning and assessment structures will engage students behaviorally, emotionally, and cognitively. When teachers know how to plan for engagement, students eagerly want to read, write, and discuss important content. Cris will help teachers think about ways to manage daily assessment and grading. She will also share what makes a compelling unit so teachers can enhance students' need to know.

Participant Learning Targets:

  * Teachers will be able to give students multiple opportunities to show what they know and need.

  * Teachers will be able to use learning targets to provide feedback that will increase understanding.

  * Teachers will be able to describe what makes a compelling unit.

  * Teachers will be able to articulate for each unit of study what they want students to know and be able to do.
