CLIMBS (Content and Language Integration as a Means of Bridging Success) is professional learning curriculum designed to introduce participants to the use of research-based approaches and WIDA resources to support English learner students in their classrooms.

This four-day workshop, lead by certified CLIMBS facilitator, Tammy Sjoberg, consists of four modules with a minimum of two weeks between each module.  The modules are designed for participants to extend their learning in between face-to-face workshop dates.


Module 1: Culture, Language, and Learning
Tuesday, December 5, 2017 
8AM-3PM

This module introduces WIDA and CLIMBS. The module focuses on making connections between culture, language, and learning. It addresses the role of collaboration and collaborative cultures. The module also provides an introduction to the principles of language acquisition and learning.


Module 2: Academic Language
Monday, January 29, 2018 
8AM-3PM

This module focuses on academic language. It introduces participants to the way in which WIDA represents academic language and to consider how academic language may change depending on context.


Module 3: Academic Language Development in Classroom Contexts
 Thursday, February 15, 2018 
8AM-3PM

This module focuses on academic language in classroom contexts. It includes text and task analysis and approaches to differentiation based on English proficiency levels. This module also addresses feedback.


Module 4: Learning and Scaffolding Strategies
 Wednesday, March 7, 2018 
8AM-3PM

This module focuses on learning and scaffolding strategies that support academic content learning and academic language learning simultaneously. It provides opportunities for participants to consider classroom applications of these practices and to develop action plans.

Registration fee:
(Includes materials, light breakfast, and lunch for all 4 days of training.)

Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
