Differentiated instruction is a nice idea, but what happens when it comes to grading students? Being sensitive to students’ readiness levels and learning styles while holding them accountable for the same standards can be a challenge. What’s fair and leads to real student learning? Join Rick Wormeli for a
provocative and candid look at what grades really mean, as well as how to handle zeroes on the 100-point scale, failures, grading scales, averaging (or not), grading homework, late work, re-done work, unidimensionality, grading special education and gifted students, and reporting to parents when
differentiating instruction. Alternative report card and gradebook formats, as well as comments from researchers in the field will be included. While offering practical tips, this workshop explores participants’ core beliefs about teaching and learning. Don’t miss it!
