Effective school research has shown that, in order to improve student outcomes and close achievement gaps, it is vital for us to focus on schools - as a system. Typically, educators are inclined toward looking at individual students, classes or programs; however, we less frequently consider the school as a coordinated system. In this session, participants will learn how leadership team structures and routines can be leveraged for school improvement.

This session will focus on the important factor of school leadership for creating, maintaining, and sustaining system change. This session will provide an overview of effective structures for leadership that go beyond school administrators or staff decision-making committees to distributed leadership routines where teachers and administrators collaborate to improve instruction and leaders learn and model effective instruction before supporting others.  Implementation routines will also be introduced as a framework for guiding school improvement actions.
