Take a deep dive with us into the work of Kylene Beers and Robert Probst through their text, Reading Nonfiction-Notice & Note Stances, Signposts and Strategies. In this workshop, participants will examine the six signposts that help readers notice significant moments in nonfiction texts. Additionally, we will examine text-dependent questions, rigor and text complexity and ways to support reading of texts across all content areas. Multiple examples and strategies will be shared. Teachers will leave this session equipped with ideas for immediate implementation of signposts into their instruction.

Workshop objectives

Teachers will:

  1. Understand the connection between the strategies presented and the Common Core State Standards.
  2. Examine the research behind the strategies and why they work.
  3. Have a process for implementation into their curriculum.

Who should attend?
6-12th grade ELA teachers and content teachers whose courses include reading nonfiction texts, Literacy Coaches and Administrators.
