AUDIENCE: School District & Head Start homeless liaisons and/or anyone involved with preschool children and families experiencing homelessness
Compared with low-income housed children, homeless children experience more health problems, developmental delays, increased anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, and lower educational achievement. (Source: National Center on Family Homelessness www.familyhomelessness.org) Please join us for an opportunity to share your experience and to hear what others are doing to address this important topic. Districts that have received a grant related to homelessness are encouraged to attend and share their progress. This event will focus primarily on services to preschoolers and their family including 4K & EC Special Education.
FORUM OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:
- Share strategies to identify and support homeless families with young children
- Review the McKinney Vento law and the role of the homeless liaison as it relates to providing services to young children
- Identify potential community partners for providing comprehensive services to preschool children
- Teacher Standards 10, 5 and 7
