Please note: This event is a four-day series: Sep 20, Nov 14, Jan 10, and Mar 13.

To be “college and career ready” all students need access to high expectations aligned with high quality curriculum. High expectations begin with the belief that the same learning targets apply to ALL. A review of the research related to high impact instructional practices that have the greatest impact on student learning leads to the work of John Hattie (Visible Learning for Teachers, 2012), who ranks the impact of teaching practices on student achievement. Although most everything we do has some positive influence on student achievement, some practices have significantly greater influence and should be prioritized in classroom practices. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is one framework for thinking about student variability, barriers to learning, and options for accessing, demonstrating understanding, and engaging with the identified learning targets.

Implementing high impact instructional practices increases opportunities to maximize student achievement. Participants will identify practices essential to every lesson and apply them to current practice. Practical classroom ready strategies will be shared and applied. Classroom management strategies will be introduced so that instructional planning can include creating safe and supportive learning environments. This series will weave research practices into planning instruction that meets the needs of all students, engaging students and delivering effective instruction. Other rresearch-based practices will include assessment practices that inform instruction and provide feedback that moves learning forward, principles of UDL, and classroom management routines that support student achievement into the four sessions.
