This workshop is intended for K-12 teachers, curriculum directors, and school administrators. David O'Connor, the American Indian Studies Consultant from DPI, will provide an in-depth presentation and discussion on Wisconsin American Indian Studies or Act 31. The focus of the workshop will be to help educators understand and implement Act 31, a state law requiring all public school districts and pre-service teacher programs to provide instruction in the history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of the eleven federally-recognized American Indian nations in the state.  Information about Wisconsin Indian nation’s histories, treaty rights, sovereignty, and cultures will be presented. The workshop is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and information they need to integrate the requirements of Act 31 into lesson plans, material selection, pedagogical practices, and district curriculum.

Please note this training workshop will meet the licensure stipulation if the training workshop is completed along with completing two follow-up assignments.

Event cost $50
