This training is designed to help educators connect with Dual Language Learners and their families.  We will investigate how to provide the best opportunities to support growth and development in both the home language and English.

Learning objectives include:

  1. Explain the WIDA E-ELD Standards Framework, its different components and its application to developmentally appropriate curriculum and authentic assessment.
  2. Describe the term dual Language Learners and their unique language trajectory.
  3. Explain the role of home language in early English language and literacy development.
  4. Describe how language development is an important aspect of school readiness. 

 

 

Teacher Standards
WES3The teacher understands how pupils differ in their approaches to learning and the barriers that impede learning and can adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with disabilities and exceptionalities.
WES6The teacher uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques as well as instructional media and technology to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.
