Readers never use just one strategy, such as inferring, to make meaning of their reading. Join us to develop a practical understanding of how readers use a system of strategic actions to engage with texts. This workshop will offer a comprehensive menu of large group and small group instructional formats that, when designed in response to individuals’ conferring sessions, propel readers to engagement and achievement levels beyond the original design of their reading unit.

Workshop Learning Targets
Participants will:

  • Understand the 12 systems of strategic actions readers need to take in order to create meaning within their reading.
  • Participate in activities that will support the use of the 12 systems of strategic actions in the classroom.

Who should attend?

Grades 3–8 teachers (regular classroom, special education, ELL and teacher supports), reading specialists / literacy coaches, curriculum and instruction coordinators and principals.
