This is an introductory session and is intended for participants who have had no prior training in Direct Instruction programs. Participants will learn a variety of strategies for teaching decoding, fluency and comprehension through the Direct Instruction methodology and will leave with knowledge and skills to implement specific programs targeted for their students’ needs.

Multisyllabic Word Reading for Struggling Readers Grades 4 and Above (Part Two) August 15, 2017
This session is a great follow up to Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers Grades 3-8 (Part One), although it is not a required prerequisite. Participants will learn a flexible decoding strategy for teaching multisyllabic words. Students need to internalize this strategy in order to read grade level text with accuracy and understanding. Participants will learn the direct instruction methodology and will leave with knowledge and skills to implement specific programs targeted for their student’s needs.
Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers Grades 6-8 (Part Three) August 18, 2017
It is recommended, but not required, that participants attend Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers Grades 3-8 before attending this session. Participants will learn a variety of strategies for teaching advanced decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through the Direct Instruction methodology and programming and will leave with knowledge and skills to implement specific programs targeted for their students’ needs.
Instructor: Amy McGovern, Reading Specialist, Wausau School District Cost: Provided by the CESA 8 Literacy Center $75 per session per participant for any 2017-18 CIA or Literacy Center Member School District. $150 per session per participant for all other school districts
