Welcome to the wonder-full world of CREATIVITY — “a wild mind with a disciplined eye.” (Dorothy Parker). We’ll learn to free our imaginations, to grow a “wild mind,” and then to discipline that mind and eye using strategies such as SCAMPER, F2OE, Talents Unlimited, Creative Twists, Creative Problem Solving, and others. All strategies will be transferrable to the classroom and to reaching all learners, but we will focus on creatively gifted/advanced learners.
This workshop is recommended for both GT Coordinators and classroom teachers of K-12 GT/advanced students.
In this year’s gifted and talented grant project, CESA 5 teachers and high school students will be exploring Creative Thinking and Teaching Strategies for GT/Advanced Learners, and student teams will apply their knowledge to create a solution to a Global Biomimicry Design Challenge. The workshop activities and coaching will also prepare GT Grant teacher facilitators to lead their student teams to successfully complete this global biomimicry design challenge.
WJoin Dorothy Ginnett, CESA 5 Curriculum Specialist and Jackie Drummer, Education Works! for the first in this series of workshops. We will feature:
-
Creative Thinking - What it is and why it is important to teach these skills? What does the research say? How does creativity develop, and how can we use it to challenge advanced/GT learners? How can we use it to enhance our teaching (and our lives)?
-
Orientation to the GT grant and the Global Biomimicry Design Challenge (for GT Grant participating districts)
-
Learn it and try-it — Creative Problem-Solving techniques to enhance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (linked to Science/Engineering standards)
-
Igniting Student Creativity for STEM Innovation — gearing up for the challenge.
Costs:
No cost for 2 GT Coordinators/Teacher team facilitators in GT Grant Participating Districts (Baraboo, Iola-Scandinavia, Princeton, Wautoma and Wild Rose).
