Session Description:
Core Words
WHAT?!? You want to do something different? UGH! I forgot the marshmallows for today! Now what am I going to do?
Have you ever spent hours planning a lesson to increase communication, including programming a device or creating a communication board, only to have it fail because the student was more interested in something else and you didn’t have the vocabulary you needed? Or you accidentally left a key item at home and now you have to come up with an entirely new lesson? Then this session is for you!
Research shows that 80% of what we say is communicated with only the 200 most basic words in our language. (Baker & Hill, 2000) These 200 words are a known as Core Vocabulary. In this session you will learn about his concept and be shown ideas for implementation in therapy sessions. Core words can be used for students requiring AAC as well as early language learners.
