Description
This workshop will engage participants in strategies that bring to life how classrooms can help students experience what it means to be 'good at math'. We will use some of the latest research to learn what students need and what teachers need. We will explore the impact of beliefs, develop an understanding of productive struggle and the value of mistakes. How are all of these things related to a 'growth mindset'? What does that mean for teaching and learning? Participants will learn the connection these all have to our student sub-groups and how they may support SLOs and school improvement plans.

Workshop objectives

  • Understand what it means to be 'good at math'
  • Learn how to provide what students need to make sense of math
  • Learn what is needed to provide a conducive learning environment for students
  • Discuss the value of mistakes and how they can be utilized for instruction
  • Discuss what the research says based on application
  • Think about the role of the student in assessment and explore methods to engage students in the learning process

PLEASE NOTE: If you are a Title I Teacher in a CESA 6 Title I Receiving School you may register at the discounted price of $50.00
