Thinkfinity for Wisconsin Educators

Description:

Participants in this eight-week online course will explore in depth the Verizon Thinkfinity web site (http://www.thinkfinity.org) and the nine partner web sites to find standards-based Internet resources for the classroom. They will develop a list of online resources appropriate for their classroom and professional development. They will take part in guided practice using advanced search strategies and will critically evaluate lessons and resources for the quality appropriate for 21st Century skills. They will discuss best practice examples and methodologies for assessing the impact of these resources on instruction. Participants will use their new knowledge to develop integration plans and curriculum units that incorporate Thinkfinity resources and high quality content into their teaching repertoire. Unit plans will include a plan for both formative and summative assessments. Unit plans and reflections will be due one week following the conclusion of the online class.This class will address Wisconsin Teacher Standards #1, #2, #3, #4, #6, #7, and #8.

Note:  An optional introductory session at the CESA 5 Office or online via GoToMeeting will be scheduled for Monday, June 13th (9:30-noon) for those participants who are unfamiliar with Moodle.

Viterbo Credit Option:   An optional two graduate credits from Viterbo University will be available for $180.  Viterbo enrollment forms and payment will be collected during the first week of class.

Course costs are partially subsidized by D.P.I. through a Verizon Thinkfinity training grant.
** Discounted registration fee of $ 75 for educators who register by June 1 from full-service ITSS districts:  Adams-Friendship, Columbus, Montello, New Lisbon, Pardeeville, Portage, Poynette, Randolph, Rio, Rosholt, Sauk Prairie, and Wisconsin Dells.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, June 8.      Please submit purchase order or check for CESA 5 registration fees to Janet Gaber, CESA 5, within two weeks of registering for the class.

Administrator Standards
WAS1The administrator has an understanding of and demonstrates competence in the teacher standards under s. PI 34.02.
WAS3The administrator manages by advocating, nurturing and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to pupil learning and staff professional growth.
Pupil Services
WPS1The pupil services professional understands the teacher standards under s. PI 34.02.
Cancellation Policy: Registered participants will receive a full refund if they cancel before 10 working days before an event, minus any material costs that have already been incurred. Because of our commitment to the trainer and the food vendor, participants who cancel less than 10 working days or do not attend, will be billed the full fee. CESA 5 reserves the right to cancel any event. Registered participants will be notified via email if a cancellation occurs and will receive a full refund. Inclement weather policy: Every effort will be made to hold an event. CESA 5 will notify participants via email as soon as possible if an event has been canceled due to weather conditions.
