What about Paraprofessionals and ESSA?
There are some new changes:
Not using "highly qualified" term; now calling them "hiring requirements."
Paraprofessionals can meet hiring requirements 1 of 3 ways:
1) 2 years post-secondary: Associate's Degree; 2 years of higher education; 48 credits/semester hour
2) Portfolio: contact Clair Fedderly, Title I / Curriculum Specialist, for more information: fedderlyc@cesa5.org
3) Assessment: Parapro: ETS, Work Keys, Master Teacher (Para Educator), or Praxis
These changes go into effect 7/1/17
Paraprofessionals will need to meet these requirements in order to work with children in a target assistance program or work with any children in a schoolwide LEA.
