The third piece to a Balanced Literacy Framework, besides readers and writers workshop, is the Language and Word Study Workshop. This includes the interactive read-aloud, shared reading, writing about reading, and word study. This workshop will define all of those components and assist in planning this portion of your literacy day. The behaviors for understanding, which will be coming from the resource “The Literacy Continuum”, will help in planning this portion of the day. The characteristics of text will also be reviewed to sure that teachers are choosing texts to fit their grade level of instruction.

Workshop objectives

  • Understanding the Language and Word Study Workshop
  • Plan each portion of the Language and Word Study Workshop by using the Literacy Continuum book
  • Plan for a month of instruction
  • Adding extra phonics lessons to differentiate for instruction

Who should attend?
K-8 Classroom Teachers, Reading Specialists, Curriculum Coordinators, and Principals.

Because of the number of meals served and the number of items used each day, along with food product changes from our food vendors, we cannot guarantee that every allergen in the food served will be identified and labeled. Guests concerned with food allergies must be aware of this risk. CESA 6 does not assume liability for adverse reactions to food consumed or items one may come into contact with while eating at a CESA 6 event. To better serve our guests with dietary restrictions or allergies, please go into your myQuickReg account and update the special accommodations section. Notice of a special dietary need must be made in advance of the event.
