A year long study concentrating on strategies to use as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher if you are going into Homes, Child Cares, Head Starts, 4K Classrooms…
.
We don’t have all of the answers, but by working together this study group will gain skills and confidence to do what is best for the children we serve. This “study” can be customized to your needs, feel free to contact Beth with your thoughts. We will be using two books as our foundation (which will be provided) and will pull in other resources as they are discovered or as needed. The first book is Powerful Interactions - How to Connect with Children to Extend Their Learning - this book is basic but wonderfully gives you guidance in explaining how interactions with children can be more powerful. The second book is Coaching with Powerful Interactions - A Guide for Partnering with Early Childhood Teachers is by the same authors. As ECSE professionals, we cannot be with each and every child all the time, so we need to “coach” parents, childcare providers, and general education teachers to work with children who have an IEP. More important than these two texts is the journey we will be taking as a study group… we know the delivery system for ECSE has changed a lot in the past few years, so this will be an opportunity to journey with others to equip ourselves to have a higher impact.
Monday, October 3, 2016. Face-to-face to start getting into our first book and plan our learning for the rest of the year. We will have periodic Zoom (virtual) meetings from 3:30-4:30 throughout the year as well as opportunities to meet in your districts. We will have an end of the year face-to-face on May 1, 2017 to share what we have learned in practice and plan where the group would like to go next.
Objectives:
1. Understand how to connect with children to extend their learning and how to explain that to others.

3. Understand basic coaching principles.
4. Understand how to incorporate what is special about special education in a regular education or home setting.
5. Understand how to write functional goals in IEPs
