How do I contribute to literacy?
Keynote Speaker - Barb Novak, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Literacy Consultant
Barb Novak is a literacy consultant at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) where she works collaboratively around standards, instruction, and assessment of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language. Barb is a proud believer in and product of Wisconsin's public schools. She attended public schools 5k through graduate programs in Hales Corners, Eau Claire, Stevens Point, Oshkosh, and Madison. Before beginning her employment at DPI in 2012, Barb served for 10 years as a classroom teacher, interventionist, and literacy coach in public schools in Chilton, Oshkosh, and Menasha.

Are you interested in engaging students deeply in the joy of learning? Would you like to create a lively, dynamic classroom in which students are excited to learn and have the drive to keep exploring until they succeed? If you answered yes, then learning about growth mindset and the impact it can have on both the teacher and the students is an important next step.
Participants will: *Explain the critical differences between fixed and growth mindset. *Use 3-5 strategies that help individuals move from a fixed to growth mindset.
Participants will walk away with: *KNOWLEDGE - Definition and characteristics of fixed and growth mindsets; awareness of available resources to help teach growth mindset. *SKILL - Ability to recognize fixed/growth mindset statements; ability to "talk back" to a fixed mindset statement. *DISPOSITION - Belief that changing the way we perceive ourselves and the world around us IS possible. - Preschool Outcomes Reporting (continues into Session II breakout time slot) - Wendi Schrieter, CESA 8 Early Childhood Program Support
With the change in Preschool Outcomes Reporting, there is also an increased emphasis on high quality assessment. Gathering and tracking student IEP progress is easier than ever when using Google Forms. Google Forms allows all staff to be engaged in the data collection process. Find out how you can develop and use google forms to track speech, academic, and behavioral goals.
