Google Docs : What’s it All About…an Overview
At the end of our mini technology overview lesson in December there appeared to be interest in knowing more about Google Docs - a topic that sparked a lot of interest for many who attended the SLATE Conference in December
Prior to the PAC meeting on January 12 (beginning at 8:30) we will provide a brief overview of Google Docs. Google Docs is an easy-to-use online word processor, spreadsheet and presentation editor that enables you and your students to create, store and share instantly and securely, and collaborate online in real time. You can create new documents from scratch or upload existing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. There's no software to download, and all your work is stored safely online and can be accessed from any computer.
Gmail is the cornerstone for using Google Docs so if you do not have a Gmail account yet, go to www.google.com click on “Gmail” in the upper left hand corner. This will provide you with the page to “create an account” once you have created your account, make note of your login and password information.
After providing the brief overview of Google Docs and share how GD is being used with administrators and teachers in education, we will play around with collaborating on a simple word document.
