As part of the Mental Health Framework developed by DPI, the initial session will focus on dealing with mental health concerns for students receiving special education services.  Topics include:

  • understanding mental health
  • awareness of supports for teachers
  • what makes a practice evidence-based
  • cultivating student’s readiness to make changes
  • changes in teacher perspective needed for successful interventions
  • improving teacher practices in working with students with disabilities in need of mental health strategies.

Follow up sessions will be more specifically focused on:  

  • Aggression Reduction:  strategies available to teachers to reduce aggression in our students
  • Managing Anxiety in a School Setting:  looks at impact of anxiety on students and ways we can manage and reduce these issues which can impair our students
  • Dealing with Disruptive Disorders:  how issues of conduct develop and what we can do to positively impact our students avoiding the unsuccessful use of punishments.

Cost:  No charge to CESA 10 CSPD (Comprehensive System of Personnel Development) member school districts; $50 to non-member districts.
