Institute Description:

This two-day event is designed specifically for secondary teachers of any content. Our goal is to provide all teachers with cutting-edge, research-based best practices in instruction. Disciplinary Literacy spans all content areas and disciplines. In this fast-paced, engaging institute, your days will be filled with interactive opportunities to gain new instructional techniques and learn new information about making your content relevant, rigorous and engaging for your students. Each day will begin with an interactive, web-based keynote with an expert in the field of secondary education. From there, participants will choose which breakout sessions meet their needs.


Day 1 (June 22):  Strengthening Your Disciplinary Literacy Practices

Dave Stuart, Jr.:  These 3 Things All Year Long - A Non-Freaked Out Approach to Disciplinary Literacy

Dave will share his story of transitioning into teacher blogging, writing his way through the Common Core State Standards, and ultimately landing on the five instructional habits that his research and gut suggests make for a powerful, impactful classroom and school.  Dave will lay out the five elements of his literacy framework and share student stories along the way.

Dr. Jeff Wilhelm:  Inquiring Minds Learn to Read, Write, and Meet the CCSS

This interactive keynote will explore how inquiry is THE model of instruction for developing deep conceptual and procedural understanding that leads to transfer and application of learning in the real world. It will also explore how inquiry is uniquely suited to assist students to meet the Common Core State Standards and upcoming assessments modeled on the NAEP and PISA assessments of student knowledge and expertise.

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received at least 8 business days before event in order for a full conference fee refund to be issued (full refunds do not include service fees. Service fees are nonrefundable).Registration cancellations received 1-7 business days before an event, a refund, minus $50 for each participant, will be issued. Persons who are registered, but not in attendance on the day of the session ("no call, no show") will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 6 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email if a cancellation occurs.
