Engaging Reluctant Writers

Introduction:

“I hate writing!”
“I don’t have anything to write about.”
“I don’t know how to do this; this is stupid!”

If any of these statements sounds familiar, then this training is designed for you.  If you want your students to write with a purpose, experience success, and view themselves as writers, then you have to understand the root causes of writing difficulties and the strategies that help students overcome them. Consider this MUST KNOW information for understanding writing instruction.  This workshop provides foundational pedagogy for any writing program or curricular materials.

Specifically, in this training participants will:

• learn why writing is so difficult for students
• experience the cognitive and neurological challenges that students encounter during    writing experiences
• discuss the critical components of writing programs that support struggling writers
• explore strategies to assist students in planning, drafting and revising

Audience:  Anyone who teaches writing...and anyone who works with students who struggle with writing!  K-12 ELA teachers, special education teachers, interventionists, content teachers, EL teachers, curriculum directors, reading specialists, instructional coaches

Cost:  $75 for CESA 8 Literacy Center Member School Districts. $150 for all others
