Leadership Coaching Project
CESA #4
Spring 2016

What is it?

The Leadership Coaching Project will assist Initial Educator principals/assistant principals to develop a formal support network and learn from experienced principals and educational leaders. The professional development and other resources (such as the CALL Survey) will help principals develop and implement strategies to apply to their practice across the late winter/spring of 2016. Additionally, the CALL Survey results will be used to identify areas where core leadership practices need to be distributed more completely by developing teacher-leadership. The Leadership Coaching Project will culminate with principals launching into the School Improvement Planning/continuous improvement process. This project will target up to 30 Principals/Assistant Principals - 15 mentees and 15 mentors.

What does it involve?

Meeting 1 (February 22, 4:00-7:00 pm, dinner provided )- Distributed Leadership: Professional Development focus will deepen understanding of the what/why/how for distributed leadership; introduction to the Comprehensive Assessment of Leadership for Learning (CALL) Survey that will assess how core leadership practices are distributed across the principal's school building; mentor and mentee training (coaching and being coached); facilitated dialogue between mentors and mentees; book study discussion of "Five Disciplines of PLC Leaders", by Tim Kanold.

Meeting 2 (April 7, 4:00-7:00 pm, dinner provided) - Finding a Focus and Leading Change: PD focus will deepen understanding of how to turn data into action - identifying an area of focus and then applying that knowledge to lead organizational change; analyze CALL data to identify school strengths and areas of needed growth; facilitated dialogue between mentors and mentees; book study discussion

Meeting 3 (June 14, 4:00-7:00 pm, dinner provided) - Using Data to Develop a School Improvement Plan: PD focus will deepen understanding of the cycle of continuous improvement and the School Improvement Planning process; exploration of how the Educator Effectiveness Plan, the Professional Development Plan, and the School Improvement Plan can become a braided initiative; introduction to student learning data analysis (WISEdash or vendor portals); facilitated dialogue between mentors and mentees to begin School Improvement Planning; book study discussion
