Is your head abuzz with thoughts regarding the new Wisconsin Forward Assessment and Dynamic Learning Maps Alternative assessments? How has using these assessments and the data they provide changed your instructional practice? What accommodations make a difference? Perhaps the most important shift for special education is that the Common Core promotes a culture of high expectations and success for ALL students—this means that more than ever before, students need to be working at grade level in the general education curriculum. Additional assistive supports and services are required to meet these more rigorous academic standards. This presentation will promote a conversation of understanding regarding: universally designed instruction; designated supports and accommodations; and the differences between built-in or added-on supports. These assessments must be used instructionally before they are used in testing situations. Examples of how to use data to determine which reading accommodations work will be shared.

Presenter: Ruth Ziolkowski, currently President of Don Johnston Incorporated, is a Keller MBA graduate and former OT. Ruth is well known in the field of special education and speaks across the country about current education topics and their impact on educators, students and print publishers.
