Workshop Description
This workshop is a hands-on experience designed to increase awareness of the difficulties and frustrations that people with dyslexia and other language-based impairments encounter on a daily basis. The goal of the workshop is not to assign a label but to lead to greater empathy, understanding and insight into working more effectively with these individuals.
In the morning session, participants will rotate among six learning stations that simulate various language-related tasks similar to those encountered in the classroom and workplace. Following the station experiences, participants will come together for a general debriefing.
In the afternoon session, participants will learn more about dyslexia and other language based impairments. Participants will distinguish facts from myths, discover symptoms, and explore bypass strategies and intervention types. When the risk signs are identified early, students can be supported and helped through the educational process.
Parents are also invited to attend this workshop. Consider sending a team of school personnel and parents as a family engagement opportunity.
