KEYNOTE
You Are What You Have Experienced (But You Don’t Necessarily Have to Be):  How Personal Experiences Can Limit (or Enhance) Our Capacity to Effectively Work with Students

Stephanie Pittman, School Psychologist

What are your barriers to learning?  Why do you think you maintain these barriers?  Are you even aware that these barriers exist?  If you are aware of these barriers, how does one begin to address them?  Most importantly, how do these barriers impact the students you work with?

Behavior plans often fail as the result of adult perspectives on behavior.  Adult experiences, mindsets and attitudes are often deeply ingrained and serve as significant barriers to student success.  Although an important variable, adult views on behavior are often overlooked despite the impact they have on our ability to effectively deal with student behavior. .

SECTIONALS

Technology in the Classroom:  Tech Tools that Transform
Archie Barribeau, CESA 9, Director of Technology and Integretion

Literacy and Self-Advocacy for All
Kathy Tuttle, DPI Northern Regional Coordinator

We are all working together to prepare students to be college and career ready!   This session will explore strategies to take back to your work with students to facilitate literacy and self-advocacy skills.  This will apply to "all" students especially students who need significant levels of support both in classrooms and/or the community.

Making Challenging Behaviors Less of a Challenge
Scott Wallace, CESA #9 Behavior Strategist

During this sectional we will discuss the art of de-escalation in the academic setting, social setting and a problem solving approach to addressing maladaptive behaviors as they occur in a proactive manner to minimize the frequency intensity and duration of acting out behaviors.  We will also discuss how we can use the Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) and data collection to improve student academic and behavioral outcomes.
