David O'Connor, Native American Studies Consultant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, is returning due to popular demand!
October 13th will find us continuing from David's last visit with a "deeper dive" into understanding how contemporary Tribal Government and Sovereignty work in the scope of the state and federal government. Participants will be able to compare and contrast various forms of government and their citizens' inherent rights and responsibilities. (WI Model Academic Social Studies Standards - Strand C and NCSS Thematic Standards A - 6, 10.) Educators will then be able to take this information and their lesson plans and be able to inspire deeper understanding and relevance to local governments.
NEW!!! This day will also include a field trip to the historic Indian Agency House, that was built in 1832. It stands in its original spot at the portage between the Fox and Wisconsin rivers.
The Social Studies Network will also feature the popular "lesson plan share". Lesson plans can be on any topic and/or grade level.
Sharing options:
A. Email the lesson to raatzr@cesa5.org.
B. Bring a paper copy.
C. Post in our Google + Community: "CESA 5 Social Studies".
Who should attend: K-12 educators seeking to enhance their knowledge and those seeking the details regarding implementation of WI Act 34.
