College and Career Ready IEPs: Improving Outcomes for Students Aged 3 to 21

College and Career Ready IEPs provide IEP teams with a framework to accelerate growth of students with disabilities with a focus on closing achievement gaps. To do this, IEP teams must have high expectations for students, use a strength based and relationship driven model for working with students and families, and explore grade level academic standards and functional skills needed for students to be academically, socially, and emotionally prepared for life after high school.

Teaching and Supporting New Behavior in Inclusive Classroom Settings

When a student is removed from the classroom because of behavior difficulties, the student is also losing access to curriculum.  When classroom removals occur frequently, the loss of instructional time makes it even more difficult for students to manage the ever increasing academic and behavior demands of school.  In this presentation, we will examine perspectives on "behavior" and discuss systems such as functional behavior assessment which can lead to a proactive approach of teaching more skillful behavior in inclusive school settings.  Recommended practices in developing proactive behavior interventions utilizing evidence-based strategies will also be shared.

Identification, Services, and General Supports for Students with Autism: What School Teams Need to Know

Currently, the CDC reports 1 in 68 students have some form of autism.  This is 1 student for every 2 or 3 classrooms!
Now more than ever, families, educators, and professionals need to understand how to identify the core needs of students with autism and address them so students are able to become more skillful and independent.  This presentation will provide an overview of the differences between medical and educational eligibility as well as provide several examples of general supports which can be implemented in the home, school, and community to address social communication and self regulation needs of students with autism.
