Participants in this blended learning course will examine the new learning environment for teachers and students made possible through the effective use of Google Apps. This course will focus on many of the free applications from Google that support teaching and learning. Some of the Google applications that will be discussed during the two-day course are: Google Docs, Spreadsheets, Forms, and Presentations, Google Calendar, iGoogle landing pages, Google Sites, and Picasa.

Participants will discuss best practice examples and methodologies for assessing the impact of these tools on instruction.  They will also identify and discuss ways that Google Tools can be effectively used in their classrooms.   Participants will use their new knowledge to develop a lesson plan or project incorporating Google Tools into their classroom curriculum or for professional development activities.  This lesson plan/project will include a plan for both formative and summative assessments and will be due one week following the end of the class.

Participants will:

  1. Create a Google Account to access Google Tools.
  2. Receive guided, online instruction and practice exploring each of the Google Tools.
  3. Understand the features and be able to use a variety of the tools and resources.
  4. Identify ISTE NET Standards which could be reinforced using Google Tools and identify new digital literacy or 21st Century skills which could also be introduced.
  5. Complete one reflections that examine their ideas and experiences during the course and how these ideas apply to their teaching or administrative position. This reflection will be posted in Google Docs, shared only with the instructor.
  6. Complete one questionnaire, administered to classmates, using Forms.
  7. Complete one classroom-wide collaborative document outlining uses, pros and cons of Google Apps in the classroom.
  8. Develop a lesson plan or project incorporating one (or more) Google tools for use in their classroom or for professional development activities.
  9. Create a summative or formative assessment for the lesson plan.
  10. Attend 2 Elluminate web sessions with the instructor.  Not optional.

Participants will:

  • Attend face-to-face instruction day.
  • Actively participate in class discussions and all activities, in class and online.
  • Thoughtfully and promptly complete the assignments or practice exercises.
  • Develop a lesson plan or project designed for classroom instruction or professional development activities.  The plan will be aligned to standards and will incorporate one or more tools introduced in class.
  • Create a formative and summative assessment for their lesson/project.
  • Complete written reflections that examine their ideas and experiences during the course and how these ideas apply to their teaching or administrative position.
  • Create and administer a questionnaire.
  • Participate in a collaborative document.
  • Complete a reflective piece.

Cancellation Policy:

Any registration cancellation must be received by the registration deadline date stated on the event for a refund to be issued. Persons registering and not in attendance on the day of the session will be charged the full registration fee (substitutions are accepted). CESA 12 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment. Participants will be notified by email or phone if a cancellation occurs.

Weather conditions:

If a workshop has been canceled due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to reschedule the workshop. Participants will be notified via email through myQuickReg.com if a cancellation occurs. Please make sure all your contact information is correct on myQuickReg.com
