Session I Breakouts  12:45 PM - 1:30 PM:

  • What's New in Special Education - Updates on current changes in special education, and what impact it will make on the new school year. This is a brief overview of current "hot" topics! - Deb Wall, CESA 8 RSN Director 
  • Growth Mindset - Why a growth mindset is so important! (continues into Session II breakout time slot)Chris Van Hoof, CESA 8 Curriculum Instruction & Assessment Director
  • Universal Design for LearningUniversal Design for Learning (UDL) is a scientifically valid framework that provides multiple means of access, assessment, and engagement and removes barriers in instruction to achieve academic and behavioral success for all.  The Universal Design for Learning framework can provide educators with a structure to develop their instruction to meet the wide range of diversity among all learners.  UDL is based on brain research that suggests a one-size-fits-all approach to education is not effective. There are three main principles of Universal Design for Learning: Access, Assessment, and Engagement.  Universal Design for Learning is not one more initiative; the practices are embedded within other educational efforts in Wisconsin. Join Terry as he provides an overview of Universal Design for Learning. - Terry Hanson, CESA 8 Director of Special Education
  • Preventing Reading Failure: Understanding Chall's Stages of Reading, Common Core ELA and the Failure Cycle - What's the difference between learning to read, reading to learn and English Language Arts; What are the distinctive features of each stage of reading? How does evidence based instruction play a role in preventing reading failure? - Darla Brink, CESA 8 Literacy Director
  • Language and Literacy Assessment in Early Childhood - This session will focus on the assessment of language and literacy with consideration given to language and early literacy milestones.-  Dale Bailey, CESA 8 Speech/Language Pathologist & Early Childhood Literacy Coordinator 
  • Significant Development Delay (SDD) - This is a review of the emergency rule for SDD, and the new eligibility criteria checklist. Please consider this session if you need more information regarding the changes in the rule. - Wendi Schrieter, CESA 8 Early Childhood Program Support 
  • School Leadership within Trauma Sensitive Schools - This session will explore the role of building classroom leadership in the implementation of trauma sensitive principles and practices. Specific examples of implementation will be shared along with barriers to successful implementation and strategies to address them.

  • Blending PBIS and TSS - A statement commonly heard in Wisconsin schools is "We cannot do one more initiative!" This session will identify how to blend trauma sensitive school practices and principles into PBIS matrices and interventions. Specific school examples will be given along with guidelines to consider when designing PBIS interventions.

CESA 8 will only provide full refund of registration fees depending on individual circumstances. Refunds depend upon the ability of CESA 8 to cancel any financial obligations created by the registration such as meals, materials, etc. Registered participants not in attendance on the day of the session will be charged the full registration fee. CESA 8 reserves the right to cancel any session due to insufficient enrollment or inclement weather. Participants will be notified via email through myQuickReg.com if a cancellation occurs.
