As the population of ELLs increases in our schools, schools are challenged with providing effective instruction to the 4K and K populations.  These students are often referred to as DLLs (dual language learners) since they are learning two languages, native language and English language.  This session will provide an opportunity for Title III leaders, Speech/Language clinicians, regular and special education teachers working with 4K/5K DLLs to meet with Early Dual Language Learning consultant, Ruth Reinl, to gather insight on serving this focus population of learners.  Participants will learn:

  • What are myths and misconceptions about working with DLLs?
  • What are the language standards for Early Language Learners or DLLs?
  • How do I measure language learning progress?
  • How can I best support DLLs in the classroom?
  • How should I group DLLs in teacher classrooms?
  • How do I partner with parents?
