This day long workshop will provide in-depth presentation and discussion on Wisconsin American Indian Studies or Act 31 (1989/1991).

The focus of the workshop will be to help educators understand and implement Act 31, which is state law requiring all public school districts and pre-service teacher programs to provide instruction in the history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of the eleven federally-recognized American Indian nations in the state. (Five of these tribes are located in the CESA 8 region.)

The workshop is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and information they need to integrate the requirements of Act 31 into lesson plans, material selections, pedagogical practices, and district curriculum.

Information about Wisconsin Indian nation’s histories, treaty rights, sovereignty, and cultures will be presented throughout the workshop. The goals of the workshop are to share best practices, information, model programs, and resources with administrators and teachers so that they are knowledgeable about Wisconsin American Indian Studies and are able to meet the requirements of Act 31.

Cost: $25 per participant for CESA 8 - CIA member school districts
          $50 for all other participants
