Today's mathematics curricula and instruction must focus on preparing students to be mathematically proficient and compute accurately, efficiently, and flexibly. But what does this mean? This book study will introduce the strategy called "Number Talks" which builds upon the key foundational ideas of mathematics such as composition and decomposition of numbers, our systems of tens, and the application of properties. Participants will learn how to implement Number Talks, deepen number sense and create a rich classroom environment.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Participants will explore how to implement a Number Talk.
2. Participants will explore their own content knowledge as it related to Number Talks.
3. Participants will complete a Number Talk with students and reflect on the implementation.
One Credit option available through St. Mary for $140 (More information on the first day)
